As a new indie author I have met the most amazing people, fans, readers, and authors alike. I have been welcomed in this fantastic Indie world with open arms and quite possibly a few open legs..But we'll just save that one for later (Don't look over there. You know who you are) But seriously, I have, by far, met some amazing people that not only have made me feel welcomed and loved, but have also had my back in every which way possible. They are kind, sincere, and quite honestly the most patient and understanding people out in Social Media Land.
But lately I have started to question...EVERYTHING!
Recently, within the past two weeks, it has come to my attention that a very kick ass author friend of mine has been dealing with some creepy ass sh!t that stemmed from months ago and has resulted in cyberbullying, personal attacks, lives threatened, and personal information plucked right off of social media and shared with the world in a very negative manner. Children have been involved, ladies and gents! This is not cool beans at all. In fact, it makes me sick.
Before I became an Indie author, I too was a fan/reader. Avid, I might add and still am. But back then, if I wasn't taking care of my minions, cooking, cleaning, or locking myself in the bathroom, claiming to be doing my business just so I could have one sliver of peace and quite, I generally had my nose crammed far up in a book, taking in every last word while my imagination ran wild. By the way, my imagination rawks ;) And I too would enter giveaways and contests, and from time to time I still do because there's always that ONE signed paperback giveaway that I really, really want to win. Whatever. Don't judge. And I'm always patient when it comes to receiving those prizes. But this whole enchilada isn't about who forgot to send what. It's about claiming sh!t that never belonged to you in the first place and trying to receive it. Big no no! Big! Huge! Um...if your name isn't tagged in the giveaway as the winner, how the hell are you going to claim that sh!t? I think someone might be a few tacos short of a grande meal, folks.
Okay, enough with my babbling. Here's the bottom line.
Authors are some of the most hard working people I know. Some have full-time jobs, some are single parents, some are college students, and some are raising families all while writing those fabulous stories you like to read. AND SOMETIMES WE DEVELOP BRAINFARTS. It's not uncommon, really. But we do keep detailed account of our winners so there isn't any mix-up. And when you claim a prize that isn't yours please take note that you WILL get blacklisted because that's just not fair to everyone else. And we get it. You're going to get pissed off and run down the hall screaming like a toddler throwing a fit. Fine! Have your temper tantrum. But it absolutely DOES NOT warrant an author to be cyberbullied and having that author's personal pictures of their children plucked off their personal profile and pasted where they don't belong. On a fake Facebook profile you created. I mean, that's just creepy! Like Creepy McCreeperson creepy. And it absolutely DOES NOT warrant personal threats that include bodily harm. C'mon, people. This sh!t's not cool and it's totally not worth the legal ramifications that could quite possibly result in this idiodic, asinine behavior.
Ask yourself this, Cyber Bully...Is it really worth it? Because now...you are on my radar as well.
And to everyone else, get back to reading those fantabulous books and have a very Happy Easter! By the way...I like chocolate too!

S.L. Romines lives in a small town in Central California, and if you blink you just might miss it. She resides on a ranch with her family which she lovingly refers to as the funny farm. Between getting dish pan hands, listening to three bickering teenagers, pretending that she’s a gourmet chef (her family would like to disagree), and trying to tune out the sound of twenty-seven deranged Guinea fowl, somehow she finds the time to write about crazy characters that even make her laugh till she cries.
